Our Why

In the U.S. in 2020, nearly 75% of drug overdose deaths involved an opioid, with a growing number linked to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. Here in Snohomish County, the crisis is hitting especially hard—opioid overdose deaths have nearly doubled in just the past few years. These aren’t just statistics; these are real people—someone’s mother, father, brother, or sister—lives lost to the devastating grip of addiction.

The rise in deaths has been largely driven by the widespread availability and dangerous use of illicit fentanyl, leaving families shattered and our community searching for urgent solutions.

That’s why the Snohomish County Recovery Coalition mobilized—to bring awareness of recovery to the surface, advocate for change, and ensure that hope and support are available for those fighting to reclaim their lives.

The coalition is 100% volunteer-based, made up of people with lived experience of addiction—individuals who have walked the difficult road of substance use disorder themselves or have supported loved ones through it. Their firsthand understanding fuels their passion to break the stigma, connect people to resources, and create a community where recovery is not only possible but celebrated.
